Mark your calendars - This year's Tour de Queens will be held Sunday, July 12th.
Registration starts May 26th - act fast or you could get shut out.
Queens residents can also pre-register at one of the many great events during Bike Month. Transportation Alternatives' Queens Committee will have a table at these events so please stop by to say hello and reserve your spot for the ride by filling out a form between now and the May 26th. You can check out just a few of these events here ; but there are many more events happening right here in Queens, so please contact me if you are interested!
Last year's Tour de Queens bike ride was a huge success. This ride was totally filled when it debuted in 2008, and despite an increase to 1000 spots, you just know it will fill up completely again in '09 - and fast! They have increased the mileage from 12 to 20 miles; it should be mostly flat and great fun for the whole family. There are rest stop areas with food and some mechanical help provided.
If you are an experienced cyclist who is competent at changing flats, who enjoys helping others enjoy the ride and so forth, your help is always welcome as a Marshal - please let me know if you are interested. I'll be orange vesting it again this year.
Look for postcards with more info about the ride in your neighborhood shops soon! Meanwhile get those bikes out, oil the chain and pump up those tires. See you all out on the road!
